Lecture at Youngstown State University, on the topic of Elliott Carter's Figment No. 1 for cello alone (1994). Krosnick will lecture on hexachordal structure, rhythmic and melodic identity, and the motivically-driven form of this iconic twentieth-century solo cello work. The lecture will include a formal breakdown of the piece, as well as a performance (with ongoing commentary by Krosnick as she plays) and a Q&A on both the piece itself and the performer's way inside it.
The lecture is entitled "Motivic Identity in Elliott Carter's Figment."
